Bulldogs Ready for Grudge Match?
NEW HAVEN, Conn.?? The No. 4 Yale men's squash team (7-0) will host No. 15 Navy (22-4) on Saturday, but first they must travel to No. 2 Trinity (8-0) Wednesday to play in one of the greatest rivalries in college squash.?
The Bantams, long a dominant force in the sport, will look to avenge the historic loss that Yale dealt them last January; the match, a 5-4 barnburner in New Haven that thrust Yale to the top of the squash rankings, ended Trinity's 252-match winning streak, the longest in the history of college athletics. Entering the match last year, Trinity ranked No. 1, Yale ranked No. 2 and, just like this year, both teams were undefeated.
The Bulldogs boast wins this season against top-ranking teams No. 5 Rochester, No. 6 Cornell, No. 7 Franklin and Marshall and No. 9 Columbia. Senior Kenneth Chan has found his form of late, winning his past two matches at No. 1. Junior Eric Caine and freshman Sam Fenwick have been consistently strong for the Bulldogs and will be key to the team's success on Wednesday.
Saturday's match at home will fix Yale against a perennial opponent in the Midshipmen. When the teams met last January in Annapolis, Md., the Bulldogs won 7-2, with current seniors Kenneth Chan and Richard Dodd recording wins at Nos. 1 and 3, respectively. The Midshipmen have put forth a rigorous schedule this season, playing more matches in November (17) than the Bulldogs have played all season.?
Wednesday's match will be played at 6 p.m. at Kellner Center in Hartford, Conn. Saturday's match will be held at 12 p.m. in Yale's Brady Squash Center.
