What is Creativity? | Self improvement tips - Fellycalines blog ...

Here in England September represents the end of Summer and the beginning of Autumn as well as the start of the new school year and the start of many new initiatives in business, life and lots more besides.

When anyone is looking to make any kind of change in their life, often the approach they take needs to become attractive or appealing in order for them to maintain it and often it may not remain attractive or appealing for as long as we like. I get lots of people that tell me that they find it difficult to maintain enthusiasm or keep on investing the required levels of energy in order to make a real success of a project or a goal.

So, for that reason, I want to talk about enhancing creativity today. When you become more creative, you can begin to make more out of your every day experiences and perceptions of what it is that you are doing, you can make life more colourful and have more fun and joy when you are more creative.

So what actually is Creativity?

Good question. We can all be creative; creativity is about making new connections ? and that is literally physiologically true within our neurology. Creativity is the mind?s growing edge. It often involves a lot of discovery. By creating new connections you build your brain power and develop mental and interpersonal flexibility which can begin to heighten your ability to do a huge array of things with more and more ease.

Imagine this; every time you link two things together, you create a third entity. That new connection can itself then connect with other ideas, additional possibilities. Imagine the impact this can have throughout a system like your brain!

Neil Armstrong first stepped onto the moon in 1965. That event changed our beliefs and thoughts about the universe. It also altered thoughts and beliefs about human inventiveness and skill: this event helped us to recognise that if we want something enough, we can find ways to do something that we may have believed to be impossible before. I reckon this gave may people some powerful and liberating thoughts and beliefs about human capability. I heard on the radio recently that there are also plans to land on Mars now! I always fancied being an astronaut.

Being creative on an individual level has the same potential: when you connect things together, you go beyond both of them; and you have the possibility of forming new beliefs about

yourself and your potential. I remember when I was first learning about NLP, hypnosis and my other beloved subjects, I was so excited, I would read so much material that I felt like my brain was literally growing and stretching. That?s not too scary is it?

I love working with children. They have such a vivid imagination, I can remember when I used to play football for hours and days on end as a youngster, I was not just imagining scoring in the World Cup final, I really was actually

there at Wembley Stadium scoring that goal, I am telling you I was there! Children are amazingly creative, each of us has been a child (some still are!). Children show their creativity in the way they discover their environment and make their own meanings of it. Many children create new worlds while playing with toys, they don?t need elaborate or sophisticated toys, equipment or props, the meaning comes from within them; the meaning comes from out of themselves.

You need to give yourself permission and time (and energy) to make new connections and links which is what creativity is all about. It is about the process rather than the outcome or the final product. You can be creative at home or at work, when changing habits, updating behaviours, resolving issues, or just making life happier in any way you can. You can be creative with words, ideas, thoughts, materials, food and the kind of fun you have. You can be creative with your surroundings or with your internal world.

In addition to this, creativity creates something new. That?s right, even if every ingredient is already known to you or is familiar. An insight for example, is creative because the new conclusion is gleaned from information you already had; it is the new perspective that makes the difference.

Above all, being creative returns us to that state where we are scoring goals in World Cup finals. It is about being absorbed and enjoying doing what you are doing, paying attention to detail, having a grand vision, being excited and playful, wondering what would happen if?

Meditating Munchkins | Baby Care Tips & Informations - Oh Baby ...

By: Laurel Crossley
meditating toddler

As I sit in my backyard at this very moment enjoying a warm, late spring breeze, listening to the wind chimes and birds chatting to and fro, I am struck by how few of us pay attention to the wee details of life. In 2010 I began a journey of quieting my mind, body and spirit and what began as an external awareness of paying attention to the wee details became an inward awareness of self.

For the past seven years, I have worked with families teaching moms the importance of shutting off and shutting down. As my mom clients allowed themselves time to become quiet, something ?magical? happened within the household ? everyone became peaceful calm and relaxed , and in some cases it even affected pet?s behaviour!. Parents also reported their children could focus better, laughed more and the families enjoyed spending time together.

As my coaching practice shifted to working specifically with children, I began to use meditation and visualization as a way of helping them deal with many common place situations including insomnia, anxiety, busy brain syndrome (inability to shut off their brains), feelings of being overwhelmed (at school) and focusing both at home and at school. Within one or two sessions, these kiddos felt calmer, better supported and empowered both at home and at school.

There has been much research on how meditation has supported adults and we are just beginning to understand the need within our communities to have moments of quiet our super charged lives.

How can we begin to support our children through meditation? Here are a few tips to get you started:

  1. Shut down and shut off! Shut off ALL technology ? computers, smart phones and mobile devices
  2. Location, location, location! Establish an area in your home that can be designated as the calming centre or zone. Anyone in the family can use that space for quiet time at any time.
  3. Schedule it baby! To start you may have to schedule family quiet time ? whether it?s reading, writing in a journal, meditating ? the choice is up to the family member.
  4. It?s a family affair! I have worked with children as young as four teaching them how to shhhhhhh ? they are fabulous at it because their minds work in the present (no past or future thoughts or thinking for them) and so they are amazing at meditation. Older children require a little more work to get them to quiet. It is absolutely imperative that Mom and Dad (whenever possible) model quiet moments and meditation to their children for it to become a way of life.

If you are still having difficulty getting children to quiet, find some meditative or soft music to play ? using the old ?music soothes the savage beast? technique. There are also many wonderful guided meditations online for children. Remember meditation takes practice and everyone has their own way of meditating ? there are no wrong or right ways to meditate.

Romanian president survives impeachment referendum

BUCHAREST (Reuters) - Romanian President Traian Basescu survived a referendum on his impeachment on Sunday after the voter turnout fell short of the required level and derailed an effort by his opponents to oust him from office.

Leftist Prime Minister Victor Ponta's efforts to unseat the conservative Basescu have brought a stern dressing-down from the European Union, which accused him of undermining the rule of law and intimidating judges.

The row over Basescu has delayed policymaking, sent the leu currency plunging to record lows, and pushed up borrowing costs. It also raised concern about the future of Romania's 5 billion euro ($6.2 billion) International Monetary Fund-led aid deal.

The election bureau said the voter turnout was 46 percent, below the 50 percent threshold Ponta's leftist Social Liberal Union (USL) needed to make the referendum valid.

Exit polls showed more than 80 percent of those who went to the ballot box had voted to remove the president.

"The flame of democracy has remained alight. Romanians have rejected the coup d'etat," Basescu said.

Ponta, whose government took office in May, suspended Basescu and held the referendum to seek popular backing for the impeachment for overstepping his powers. The president is unpopular for backing austerity and for perceptions of cronyism.

The electoral bureau's figures have a margin of error of three percentage points and do not include Romanians voting abroad, but it is now almost certain that final figures - probably on Monday - will show turnout was below 50 percent.

Opinion polls had shown some 65 percent of Romanians wanted to remove the former sea captain from office, but the opposition had called for a boycott of the vote and many people were on holiday.

The president's most important power is nominating the prime minister, which could be crucial after a November election that may leave a split parliament. The president also appoints the chief prosecutor and some judges, including to the Constitutional Court.

That court, which previously said the threshold had to be observed, will make the decision on the vote's validity this week.

"The Romanian government will respect all decisions of the Constitutional Court and will act as a factor of stability in the next period, regardless of whether the referendum is validated or not," Ponta said.

EU PRESSURE

Romania has made progress since the 1989 overthrow of communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and joined the EU in 2007, but the economy slipped back into recession in the first quarter of this year and pockets of severe poverty remain.

Ponta felt the full weight of EU wrath after his government took on the Constitutional Court, threatening to replace judges and reduce its powers, and ignoring one of its decisions. Brussels said it was concerned about the government's respect for the rule of law, democratic procedures and the judiciary.

The government had tried to make it easier to impeach Basescu by removing the minimum turnout rule, but was forced to back down following harsh EU criticism and a Constitutional Court ruling that a 50 percent turnout was obligatory.

Basescu initially urged Romanians to vote against what he called a coup d'etat, but this week he changed his mind and he and his allies, the opposition Democrat Liberal Party (PDL), asked supporters to boycott the referendum, citing concern about the possibility of electoral fraud.

"We have an entire political class that puts their own interest before the country's," said pensioner Monica Munteanu. "I am not voting."

Brussels has a wide range of levers with which to put pressure on Romania, whose justice system is under EU monitoring. Romania gets European cash to help it catch up with other members and the bloc contributes to its IMF-led aid deal.

Ponta promised to respect the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary, but Brussels replied that it had yet to see proof of this, for example by the replacement of a USL loyalist with a neutral figure as public ombudsman.

The USL says Basescu - whose term expires in 2014, when he cannot run again - had undue influence over the judiciary after the Constitutional Court ruled against some government laws.

The president can block legislation but only once before parliament can overrule him with a second vote.

"I voted to take him down because he cut my pension and he doesn't deserve to be in power," said Sandu Neacsu, a 66-year-old pensioner from Pantelimon near the capital Bucharest.

Fatherhood: The Silent Strength | CatholicMom.com

Fatherhood: The Silent Strength

Fathers seem to get a lot of blame and not enough credit. A lot of responsibility is placed upon fathers when it comes to the health of a family. A father is the head of the family and responsible for their spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being. Oftentimes the breadwinner, the father is stressed financially and spiritually in times of making ends meet. When his soul and relationship with God are suffering, it can be hard for him to be the spiritual rock.

Joseph is the example Christian fathers have been given to follow. He, too, probably had doubts for he was imperfect. As the father of God and the husband of a wife without sin, he may have felt unworthy. But God asked him to take on the blessings and burdens of being Jesus?s father and he obeyed. Taking action and being a protector are two very important qualities of fatherhood. Just being involved in a child?s life can leave deep impressions.

Fathers are not always blood-related; they can be older male friends as well. Fathers are loving and caring, just as much as they are risk takers while relying on God. They show others the way to Christ through example and they are living proof of God?s love for us. Men are the masculine form of God and they portray His love in their manliness.

Men no longer go out and hunt for food, but they do fight for their faith in a world that is against them. They may work to pay bills, build up a savings for emergencies, or just to feel like a man. But at the end of the day, a man works and fights for his family and their needs. He places his wife and children before himself, just as Joseph put Mary and Jesus before his reputation. Joseph let God guide him in his decision and said, ?Yes,? just like Mary did. God asks us every day to say, ?Yes.? Each day I see my husband off to work, he is answering God in his small way of providing for us. Fathers are men of action, and that action is supported with love.

In my testing, this massive printer consistently delivered magnificent, gallery-quality prints, and did particularly well in printing monochrome images and ones with very dark backgrounds.

The Pixma PRO-1 measures 9.5 by 18.2 by 27.4 inches and weighs 61 pounds. Although large and heavy, it's not unattractive, with a matte-black finish and rounded corners. It has only 3 buttons: On, Cancel/Resume, and a button to open the ink compartment. The PRO-1 can print on cut paper sheets up to 13 by 19 inches. It has a rear tray that fits up to 150 sheets, as well as a single-sheet manual feeder, also in back, that supports thicker paper. In addition, it can print on optical discs, using an included tray.

The PRO-1 sports a whopping 12 ink tanks, each with more than twice the volume and a lower cost per milliliter than one of the Mark II's 10 ink tanks. Five of the PRO-1's ink tanks are black or shades of gray; not surprisingly, in my testing the PRO-1 did particularly well in rendering black and near-black shades. The tanks are located in two compartments, one on either side of the output tray. (It's easy to know if the tanks are seated correctly, because each tank has a light on top that will go in when properly installed, and will blink when the tank is drained.)

Colors for the pigment inks include red; yellow; cyan; magenta; photo cyan; photo magenta; matte black; photo black; light gray; gray; dark gray. The twelfth tank is a Chroma Optimizer, a coating that according to Canon covers the bumps between ink droplets to achieve uniform glossiness in dark areas and smooth tonal gradation in colors, increasing the color gamut.

Each of the ink tanks has a 36ml capacity, and Canon sells them for $35.99 each for an even $1 per milliliter. (The Chroma Optimizer tank costs slightly less, $29.99 for the same capacity.) This compares with $1.14 per ml for the Pixma Pro9500 Mark II?s smaller (14ml) tanks, and $1.21 per ml for the Editors' Choice Epson Stylus Photo R3000 ?($849 direct, 4.5 stars), whose 8 ink tanks each have a 25.9-ml capacity. ?

However, cost per ink volume may not translate directly into cost per print, for which neither Canon nor Epson give a figure (and which would be tricky to quantify for printers with so many ink tanks, as it largely depends on what's being printed). Also, Canon doesn't give a rated duty cycle for the PRO-1, so there's no way of knowing how much you can print per month without shortening the life of the printer.

Canon has geared the PRO-1 to professional photographers, but it's also suitable for photo enthusiasts (in which category I number myself) who want to get the best out of their photos?particularly ones who do a lot of black-and-white printing. It's less expensive than most DSLRs, and it's easy to set up and use; the trickiest thing about it may be finding a place to fit its hulking frame.

The Canon Pixma PRO-1 offers USB and Ethernet connectivity, whereas the Pro9500 Mark II is limited to USB connectivity. The Editors' Choice Epson Stylus Photo R3000 ($849 direct, 4.5 stars) can connect via USB, Ethernet, or WiFi.

Canon Pixma PRO-1

Printing Speed, Text, and Graphics
Print quality is paramount for this class of photo printer, but photo printing speed is also important, especially to a busy pro. In our testing using QualityLogic's hardware and software for timing, the PRO-1 took an average of 2 minutes 14 seconds to print out a 4-by-6 photo, faster than the Pixma Pro9500 Mark II's 2:35 but much slower than the Epson Stylus Photo R3000's average of 53 seconds per 4-by-6 print. In fact, the R3000's average of 1 minute 41 seconds per 8-by-10 print is actually faster than it took for the PRO-1 to print out a 4-by-6. The PRO-1 averaged 3 minutes 53 seconds per 8-by-10, a step up from the Pro9500's 4:31.

Using a near-dedicated photo printer like the PRO-1 to print text documents is a bit like using a Maserati for grocery runs, but it still prints out excellent text for an inkjet, easily good enough for elegant documents like resumes or for basic marketing materials. Its graphics are also above par, suitable for marketing materials; the worst I could say about them is that some backgrounds could have been darker and some thin, colored lines bolder.

Photo Quality
Photos, of course, are this machine's raison d'etre, and in printing them out the PRO-1 excels. Print quality is exquisite, perhaps the best I've seen on an inkjet. Our monochrome test print was tint-less, with great contrast and a smooth, even background. With other prints, colors seemed true, and the printer did well in capturing subtle gradations in skin tones. There were no flaws worth mention.

In addition to our normal test suite, I printed out some ad-hoc 13-by-19-inch images on Canon's semi-gloss paper with the PRO-1. I shoot a lot of night scenes and have a particular interest in astrophotography, and photos of the night sky proved a perfect venue for testing its ability to handle black and near-black shades. I was particularly impressed with its ability to print even, dark shades with uniform ink density. (It seems that the Chroma Optimizer was working as billed, not to mention the five black or gray ink tanks.)

The near-dedicated photo printers from Canon and Epson both produce magnificent prints, though they have slightly different qualities, and those in the market for a professional-grade photo printer will want to compare output from models from each brand to see which they prefer.

The Canon Pixma PRO-1 is a formidable A3+ professional-grade photo printer, capable of consistently printing out exquisite, gallery-quality prints at up to 13-by-19-inch size. It does particularly well in printing out monochrome or nearly black output, as befitting its multiple black and gray ink tanks. Although a good professional-grade printer, it should also appeal to advanced amateurs who want to get the most out of their images. I can strongly recommend it for its superb output.

In our review of the Pixma Pro9500 Mark II, we lauded it for its top-notch black-and-white output, and the PRO-1 does at least as well. The PRO-1 is faster at printing than the Canon Pixma Pro9500 Mark II. It also offers larger and more ink tanks, and a lower cost per milliliter of ink than either the Pro9500 Mark II or the Editors' Choice Epson Stylus Photo R3000, though that doesn't necessarily translate directly into lower cost per page.

The R3000 is smaller, lighter, and faster than the PRO-1, has a lower price tag, and adds the ability to print from paper rolls in sizes up to 13 by 44 inches as well as WiFi connectivity and a color LCD control panel. Both printers produce exquisite, top-tier prints, and the Canon Pixma PRO-1's masterful handling of monochrome printing should make it attractive to professionals and photo enthusiasts alike.

Business travel convention coming to Boston - seattlepi.com

BOSTON (AP) ? As his company aims to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, the head of AMR Corp. and American Airlines Inc. will discuss the airline's restructuring and how it will affect business travel at a business travel industry convention.

Thomas Horton, the chairman, president and CEO of AMR Corp. and American Airlines is one of many industry leaders who will participate in the four-day Global Business Travel Association convention, beginning Sunday in Boston.

American Airlines filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November. Horton said this month that the company has upped revenue and reached deals with labor unions that will cut costs. In a letter to employees, he said the company will evaluate potential mergers to strengthen its operations.

The Global Business Travel Association will bring together thousands of travel industry leaders, suppliers and managers to discuss challenges, policy trends and potential profit areas during its annual convention.

The convention, which runs through Wednesday, will also feature keynote addresses from former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. "Saturday Night Live" comedian Seth Meyers is slated to speak Monday.

Rebecca Carriero, a spokeswoman for the association, said this marks the first year two former U.S. presidents will speak at the convention. It is unclear what Clinton and Bush will speak about during their addresses.

Clinton previously spoke at the convention in 2009. Michael W. McCormick, the association's executive director and chief operating officer, said the Democrat was asked back because of his "ability to distill global events, making even the most complex situation relatable."

In addition to keynote speeches, the convention will offer industry leader panels and more than 65 education sessions, as well as professional development opportunities before the convention begins.

During the event, thousands of employees from companies across the travel industry, including hotels, airlines and technology firms, will have the opportunity to share their experience and network. More than 400 companies will display their products and services on the convention's expo floor.

Registration for the convention costs upwards of $1,500 per person.

Late Night Stand-Up Rewind: Todd Barry, Louis C.K., Marc Maron And More (VIDEO)

Sometimes, it's nice to have a reminder that for every Daniel Tosh rape joke that gets made, there are thousands of alternatives that we can see on TV nearly every night. And this week was a good one for stand-up: Not only did we see the likes of Todd Barry and Ted Alexandro do stand-up on CBS, we got some great panel from Louis C.K., Marc Maron and Jen Kirkman.

Plus, Sebastian Maniscalco performed on "Conan" to promote his upcoming Showtime special, and newcomer Cristela Alonzo did great on "Conan," too.

Finally, the second season of "John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show," Comedy Central's new show showcasing some of the funniest stand-up comedians in America, debuted this week as well. What a week!

  • Todd Barry On 'Late Show with David Letterman'

The great Todd Barry talks about why he'd love to get locked up in a Belgian prison, and the worst advantage of being in a frat.

Ruth Coleman, California Department Of Parks And Recreation, Resigns Amid Scandal (PHOTOS)

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The director of California's state parks resigned and a deputy was fired Friday after officials learned the department sat on nearly $54 million in surplus money for years while parks were threatened with closure over budget cuts.

Ruth Coleman, director of the state Department of Parks and Recreation, stepped down, and chief deputy Michael Harris was let go amid questions about the underreported funds that date back 12 years, announced state Natural Resources Agency Secretary John Laird, whose agency oversees the parks department.

Laird said it's not clear why the account balances weren't properly reported and many questions remained. So far, there's no indication the money was stolen, but Laird said the investigation is ongoing. He declined to speculate if it was an accounting mistake or if there was intentional wrongdoing.

"I'm obviously deeply disappointed and feel truly sorry (for) everybody that was involved," Laird said. "It's my take that the challenges to parks are so much greater than this and we still have to meet them. We're going to do our best and move ahead."

Coleman, who joined the department in 1999 and served under three governors, said she was unaware of the surplus but accepted responsibility for the accounting problem.

"I am personally appalled to learn that our documents were not accurate," she wrote in her resignation letter released by the governor's office.

Gov. Jerry Brown accepted Coleman's resignation and appointed California Natural Resources Agency Undersecretary Janelle Beland as acting interim director of the department.

The shake-up comes at a time when state lawmakers and park advocates have been trying to find ways to keep most parks open despite ongoing budget cuts. Last month, park officials announced most of the 70 state parks once slated to close would remain open.

The Sacramento Bee first reported Coleman's resignation after inquiring about the possibility of a surplus in connection to a secret vacation buyout program for employees at department headquarters. The newspaper reported Sunday that a high-ranking official acted without authorization in allowing dozens of employees to sell unused vacation time back to the state.

Officials estimated the scheme cost taxpayers more than $271,000.

State officials said the "hidden assets" that prompted the investigation were found by a new park fiscal staff member, Aaron Robertson, while the attorney general's office was looking into the unauthorized vacation buyouts.

The administration said it disclosed the accounting problem within 48 hours of the discovery.

Friday's announcement sparked outrage from state lawmakers, including Democratic Sen. Noreen Evans of Santa Rosa, who crafted legislation allocating new funds for the beleaguered parks system in the face of $22 million in budget cuts.

"This discovery uncovers the ultimate betrayal of public trust," Evans said in a statement. "If one department can hoard $54 million for 12 years, who else is playing the same tricks of deceit and thievery?"

Separately, state Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg called for an oversight hearing.

State officials said the attorney general's office is investigating and finance officials will conduct a full audit of the department. Deputy Finance Director Michael Cohen said the administration will move to make sure the same problem isn't happening in other special funds.

A preliminary investigation shows the parks department underreported two funds as far back as 2000.

The state parks and recreation fund, which is generated from park fees and rentals, held $20.4 million more than was reported. The off-highway vehicle fund, which is generated from registering ATVs and similar types of vehicles, held $33.5 million more than reported.

Laird said it's difficult to say whether the money would have prevented the state from targeting dozens of parks for closure.

"It would be hard to assess. Of course it would assist," he said.

California operates 279 parks, which include famous beaches to redwood forests. The parks that were at risk of closure got a reprieve last month after the governor signed Evans' bill allocating new funds for the next year. The state has also reached agreements with nonprofits, local governments and others to keep 40 parks open at least for a few years.

Jerry Emory, communications director for the California State Parks Foundation, a nonprofit that raises money to benefit state parks, said the organization was stunned by the accounting problem.

However, he said the foundation does not expect donors to pull back because the state has already reduced maintenance and operating hours.

"What's happening in Sacramento is very unfortunate," Emory said. "We hope it gets corrected and it never happens again in the future, but we have our eye on the prize, which is always to make sure state parks stay open and accessible to Californians."

In relation to making money online with Internet Marketing you are ...

Something you may not be aware of is that in relation to Internet Advertising there are myths floating around that make individuals think this is really a perfect business for them. One thing you will need to remember however, is that these are simply myths and for the most part they?re an inaccurate view of Internet Advertising. Just so you know what the reality is in relation to these myths we are going to be discussing a number of them on this page and telling you what the reality is.

Getting rich quick on the internet is probably one of the primary things which comes to mind when folks think about starting up an internet business but this is actually a myth. A primary reason this myth is floating around is simply because there actually have been people that have gotten rich quickly using Internet Marketing, but we?re referring to one out of a million. If you have been researching internet businesses I am sure you have come across a lot of different programs which promise you huge, instant income, but the way these individuals make their money is by convincing you of this so you will buy their program. When it comes right down to it you?re going to find that getting rich quick is not something you are going to be able to accomplish with Internet Marketing and advertising. WiseFixer reviews

A lot of individuals will also try and convince you that making money on the web is one of the easiest things you could ever possibly do, however in relation to Internet Marketing and advertising the opposite is in fact true. This is something which will require you to invest a lot of hard work and a lot of time if you actually want to find success with this type of venture, after all it?s a business you are building. Something you need to be aware of relating to this however, is that because you do not need to carry inventory or set up an office in an office complex, there?s a lot less investment required when starting a business online. click here

One more thing you?ll most likely heard is that anybody can actually end up becoming successful on the net, but the truth is some men and women are just not built for finding success online. There?s a lot of people who are not going to have the dedication and the determination needed to be able to realize success with this, and those individuals are going to wind up failing miserably. Failure in any sort of Internet Advertising and marketing business is almost assured if you are actually a lazy person searching for the easy way out.

One more thing you?re going to find about Internet Marketing is really a lot of individuals think that they?re going to never need to spend any kind of money in order to find the success they?re searching for. When you think about it I should mention that there are particular ways of Internet Marketing and advertising which are free, but only making use of these free techniques aren?t going to offer you the success you are trying to find. Finding success on the net is not something which every person will be able to do, and it will require that you set aside a specific amount of time every single day to devote to this business.

Lap-dancing wife awarded $3.25 million in divorce

By Kari Huus, NBC News

A judge in Australia ordered a Sydney multimillionaire who met his wife when she worked at a lap dancing club to honor the $3.25 million prenuptial agreement now that they are divorcing, despite his argument that she was a gold-digger who used sex to lure him into a loveless relationship, Australia?s Daily Telegraph reported on Thursday.

The 58-year-old man, who was not named, told Family Court that he had become infatuated with the dancer, who is 14 years younger, in 1998 and that by the time they were married and signed the prenuptial agreement in 2005, he was "emotionally or pathologically dependent" on her, the report said.

The pair had lived together for a number of years before getting married, but the man complained that after marriage the quality and quantity of "intimate relations" declined steeply, which she reportedly disputed.

But Family Court judge Robert Benjamin said the man had not proved that his wife unfairly coerced him into a loveless marriage in 2005 and then out of $3.25 million of his $17 million estate, it said.

"(A) change in the nature of intimacy between parties when they marry is not an indication of fraud, coercion or unconscionable conduct. It is indicative of normal human behavior," Benjamin said, according to the Telegraph.

Chicago mayor seeks recipe to expand food trucks

(AP) ? Each day at lunch Amy Le faces the same dilemma as she looks for a spot to park her bright green food truck in downtown Chicago. She needs a space close enough to hungry office workers but far enough away from the restaurants she knows will call police if she gets too close to their doors.

She finds a loading zone and sends out a tweet to her regular Duck N Roll customers so they can find the truck and buy her pre-cooked Vietnamese-inspired duck sandwiches before a police officer ? who she worries might also be reading her tweets ? notices she's parked illegally.

It's a calculated risk that Le is willing to take to sell her sandwiches. "I'm constantly looking over my shoulder for a police officer," she said.

Though Chicago is increasingly known for its high-end restaurants, it lags behind other cities across the country when it comes to the food truck craze. The colorful trucks with their niche menus can operate here, but they are not full-service ? meaning chefs can't cook and prepare food onboard ? and they are governed by strict rules prohibiting them from parking within 200 feet from a restaurant.

After years of debate, the rules may be changing. Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who doesn't like the idea of Chicago lagging behind pretty much anything, is hoping to make it easier for food trucks to operate in the city, while at the same time appeasing brick-and-mortar restaurants that have long been opposed to the mobile kitchens.

His aim seems simple enough. But this is Chicago, a city of no small rivalries, where lawn chairs sprout up in parking spots after snowstorms and flat tires await those who move them anyway ? testimony to the serious business of reserving space on crowded streets.

Though Emanuel's proposed ordinance would finally allow trucks to cook and prepare food onboard and would create parking zones around the city, it doesn't eliminate the 200-feet rule, quadruples the maximum fine for setting up shop inside that zone to $2,000 and would require trucks to carry GPS devices to track their every move. Some see the ordinance as a compromise, but others believe it still falls short and could lead to a prolonged turf battle between restaurant owners ? who claim the trucks have an unfair advantage because they don't pay for things like property taxes and rent ? and the truck operators.

"I think what's going to happen more than anything is there are going to be confrontations between restaurant owners and the food truck operators," said Glenn Keefer, the owner of Keefer's, a restaurant in the trendy River North area.

Though the food truck debate has been brewing for years in Chicago, it only started gaining momentum when Emanuel became mayor last year. Just as Wrigley Field was the last major league park to install lights and Chicago was slow to join the craft beer craze that ran wild in other cities, the Windy City does things at its own pace. With fewer than 60 food trucks, Chicago lags far behind cities like Austin, Texas, and Los Angeles, where there are hundreds and sometimes more than 1,000 of them.

That irked Emanuel.

"Fifty other communities around the country have figured out how to deal with food trucks," Emanuel said last month. "We were sitting around as a city with restaurants saying, 'No way,' and food truck operators saying, 'No rules,' and ... as far as I could see going nowhere fast."

Some in the restaurant industry believe the proposed ordinance addresses their concerns.

"I was not in favor of food trucks, (but) the ordinance they are putting forward addressed a lot of issues (restaurant) people have," said Grant DePorter, CEO of Harry Caray's Restaurant Group.

Others, such as Keefer, say it doesn't go far enough. He wants the trucks banned from downtown altogether except for the dedicated parking zones.

"We are paying for the Fire Department, Police Department, streets and sanitation, schools, in the form of $70,000 a year in property taxes," said Keefer. "When you add all these fees up it is phenomenal and theirs are minuscule."

But food truck owners say the proposed ordinance favors Goliath over David.

"Without lifting that 200-foot rule it will be almost impossible for people to sustain a business," said Tiffany Kurtz, the owner of Flirty Cupcakes, which sells designer cupcakes with names like Paradise Island from a pale blue truck.

Le said the GPS requirement will certainly mean being ticketed whether she does anything wrong.

"I do catering all the time to businesses that are next to restaurants. So if I pull up and drop off a catering order, a restaurant owner can call the cops on me," she said.

Truck operators say they feel the GPS and 200-feet requirements are a result of the restaurant industry's political influence, or clout as they call it here.

"It feels like a lot is being done to protect them that you don't see in other industries," said Kurtz, who also owns a bakery in the city's Little Italy neighborhood. "You look at Peapod (and) they're not saying, 'You cannot deliver five blocks from a grocery store.'"

On Thursday, a City Council committee is expected to hear the mayor's ordinance and food truck and restaurant owners will have their chance to make their case. The full council could vote on the proposal as soon as next week.

Alderman Scott Waguespack, who drafted his own ordinance before the mayor submitted his, has a message for food truck operations: Accept the ordinance and fight the parts they don't like in court. In Los Angeles, a rule regulating how close food trucks could park to restaurants was thrown out of court years ago. Last year in El Paso, Texas, officials did the same thing after a federal lawsuit challenged its 1,000-foot rule.

As for Keefer, even as he's fighting the food truck operators he's thinking about joining them. He even bought a domain name ? WeckWagon.com ? named after a beef sandwich he sells.

"Before I open up another cafe I would certainly get a food truck," he said. "I didn't buy a domain name for nothing."
