LG's 5-inch Optimus Vu shipping soon in white (in Korea, at least)
Just under two months after LG's Optimus Vu got priced for the hometown market, in flies news that another hue will soon be on those very same shelves. The 5-inch, 4:3 ratio'd Android smartphone will soon hit South Korea in white, purportedly targeting the "younger" market -- you know, folks who like "cool" things (LG's translated words, not ours). Folks can look for the device -- which should remain unchanged outside of the external color -- to hit SK Telecom as early as next week, but there's no word on when (or if) it'll spread to other markets.

'Dark Knight Rises' Third Trailer To Premiere With 'Avengers'
'Knight' will also have the most IMAX footage of any Hollywood movie.

Marvel and DC Comics fans are in for quite a treat. Not only will "Marvel's The Avengers" finally release in theaters on May 4, but it was confirmed over the weekend that DC Comics' "The Dark Knight Rises" third trailer will debut when Earth's mightiest heroes ban together.
A Warner Bros. executive told Deadline Hollywood, "We see this placement as a good strategic decision. We always want our trailers to be seen with films that people want to see — and a lot of people will be going to 'The Avengers'!"
Warner Bros.' idea of placing a DC Comics trailer in front of a Marvel film isn't new. In 2008, a third trailer for "The Dark Knight" played before "Iron Man." It would seem a little strange since Marvel and DC are rivals, but it's all a marketing strategy. "It will provide the best potential exposure for 'The Dark Knight Rises,' " the studio exec said. "It's a big positive for everyone!"
We know comic fans are certainly not complaining. And that's not all they have to look forward to when it comes to Christopher Nolan's final Batman flick. The Wall Street Journal also reported that "The Dark Knight Rises" will contain the most IMAX footage ever featured in a Hollywood film. "The Dark Knight" had 40 minutes of IMAX footage when it released in 2008, but the 2012 follow-up will have more than an hour's worth. It may seem like IMAX is nothing to get excited over, with "The Avengers," "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "Prometheus" all slated to hit IMAX screens this summer as well. The difference is Nolan's film was shot with an actual IMAX camera, whereas the others are simply being converted by IMAX's technology.
The 90-pound, incredibly noisy IMAX camera has proved to be difficult for some directors, but it didn't faze Nolan. "There was a huge irony that we were told it would be too difficult to shoot a Hollywood movie on IMAX when we had this gigantic camera department, grips, electric, hundreds of people working for us," the director told WSJ. "These were cameras that had been to the top of Mount Everest, to the bottom of the ocean and into outer space, but people thought we couldn't make a feature film. It was absurd."
Audiences can see the third trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises" during the "Avengers" previews on May 4, before the Batman epic releases on July 18, 2012.

Trendy fashion-forward New York boutique, Scoop NYC, will set up shop later this month in Brentwood, California. The 2,700 square foot store, located on 216 26th Street, Santa Monica, will be surrounded by some of Brentwood?s most prominent fashion boutiques. The store will be Scoop NYC?s first in California, and its 16th in the US.
Its first store opened in 1996 in New York City, and has since expanded to three Manhattan locations as well as Greenwich, CT; East Hampton and Greenvale, Long Island; the Shore Club Hotel in Miami Beach; The Forum Shops at Caesars in Las Vegas; two Chicago locations as well as Dallas, Boston, Atlantic City and now, Brentwood.
Susan Davidson, President and CEO of Scoop NYC said, ?All of us at Scoop are thrilled with the opening of our first West Coast store in Brentwood. Scoop has always had a loyal Los Angeles following that currently shops with us in New York, East Hampton, Las Vegas and online, and now we?re excited to provide the Los Angeles market with its very own store. The Brentwood location will bring Scoop?s ?Ultimate Closet? concept to life, with its signature assortment of designer offerings mixed with contemporary apparel, accessories, and, of course, denim for both men and women.?
Scoop?s 26th Street store will mimic the light and airy feeling of California style, yet it will still maintain Scoop?s signature sleek and modern aesthetic.

Additionally, Scoop Brentwood will be the only store in California to offer Amedeo jewelry, an exquisite line consisting of one-of-a-kind, hand-carved Cameos from Italy.
Offerings for men will include styles by Dsquared, Michael Bastian, Paul Smith, John Varvatos, Moncler, PRPS, Yigal Azrou?l and Duckie Brown. Scoop?s own brand of women?s and men?s apparel and accessories will also be available.
Scoop will host a series of events to welcome the new store location beginning on April 28th with a celebration that will include free denim giveaways from AG Jeans, a chance to win a $1,000 Scoop shopping spree, Scoop cupcakes made by Brentwood?s own Yummy Cupcakes, a live DJ and delicious cocktails.
The festivities will also include an exclusive VIP cocktail reception in partnership with the Hammer Museum on May 2nd. Scoop will also partner with the Hammer on Sunday, May 20th, to sponsor K.A.M.P. (Kids Arts Museum Project), a family fundraising event with renowned Los Angeles artists that provides extraordinary access and experiences for children and their families. Proceeds raised through K.A.M.P. will provide funding to keep all Hammer Kids programs free to the public.
Sounds like a ball of a time and definitely a store we will check out the next time we are in LA.

Authors Speaking in Redding | Writers Forum
Writers Forum members and friends, there are some wonderful authors speaking in Redding this month. ?I know I?m excited for their talks and I hope to see you at these great events.
The first one features Jeanne Wakasuki Houston, author of ?Farewell to Manzanar?. ?Here?s what redding.com has to say about this event:
?Farewell to Manzanar? author Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston will speak at 6 p.m. April 24 at the Redding Library on Parkview Avenue as part of a statewide program that uses books as a springboard for discussions about democracy.
The effort in Redding includes speakers, films, discussions and a community wide reading of ?Farewell to Manzanar.? California Reads? ?Searching for Democracy? was developed by Cal Humanities in partnership with California Center for the Book and the California State Library. Redding is one of 51 libraries in the state participating, said Megan Owens, outreach coordinator for Shasta Public Libraries.
Wakatsuki Houston?s 1973 book has become a favorite of children and adults, and is included in the curriculum of many schools. Written from the perspective of a child and the retrospection of an adult, it shares the story of Wakatsuki Houston?s life in Manzanar Relocation Camp on the east edge of the Sierras. She was 7 ? the youngest of 10 children ? when her family was uprooted from their Long Beach home in 1942 following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. They lived behind barbed wire and in the shadow of guard towers until 1945.
Wakatsuki Houston collaborated with late husband James D. Houston to write the book, which was later made into a movie. She received the Award of Excellence for her contributions to society from the Japanese American National Museum in 2006.
The second event on Friday, April 27th, features Dave Peltzer, author of ?A Child Called It?. ?This event is part of The Week of the Young Child.

FCC begins tracking wireless carriers' implementation of bill shock notifications
If you've ever mistaken your wireless bill for your phone number, only to discover a dollar sign in front of all those digits, you're far from alone. The CTIA estimates that one in six mobile subscribers have experienced bill shock, but thanks to the efforts of the nation's wireless carriers -- along with a bit of help from the FCC -- consumers will start to receive notifications of any potential overages, along with alerts when the threshold has been crossed. The program is still in its infancy, but the FCC has launched a website to track wireless carriers' implementation of the notification system, which will alert consumers to any voice, data, SMS or international roaming charges. Carriers have until October 17th to have alerts for at least two of these categories in place, and will have until April 17th of next year to implement all four. Consumers may track the monthly progress of individual carriers at the FCC's bill shock website, but for a current peek at their progress, just hop the break.
